Tom Metzler is homeless and, during the day, he hangs out on Anchorage's Delaney Park Strip. I have gotten to know Tom over the past few weeks and my heart goes out to him. Alcohol has taken its toll on Tom; his speach is labored and his steps unsure. I believe that life on the streets of Anchorage has become more dangerous in recent years. "I was beat up by two thugs the night before last." Are you okay...why did they beat you up?" "They wanted my bottle." (© Clark James Mishler)
