Looking into the camera, as opposed to up or away made it even harder, so I was even more determined. It reminded me of some hippie partner yoga classes I’ve taken where you are instructed to stare into a fellow student’s eyes and not talk, laugh, smile, look away, or make faces, just see. I think you were supposed to feel and receive deep compassion after several minutes. I remember being determined to do the assignment correctly–to get the deep compassion!–but it was hard to relax into.
