Strength and Beauty campaign, Anchorage (Clark James Mishler)

5:15 PM, March 29, 2013.  Samoan/Maori brothers, Abraham and Donald Haretuku, participate in the Strength and Beauty campaign featuring successful Pacific Islands people living in Alaska.  This three day project was, perhaps, the most rewarding photographic opportunity of my life.  There is a large population of Pacific Island people living in Alaska.  Members of this tightly woven community often greet each other with wide smiles and warm embraces.  It was a wonderful opportunity to meet and photograph these volunteers.  I was very happy that everyone opened up to me, allowing me to learn about their culture, traditions and their overwhelming sense of self respect.  See more images from this series at:
